Properly insulating your basement

As fall ends and winter approaches the design department at Basements & Beyond is reminded once again of the importance of properly insulating your basement.
Many customers of Basements & Beyond ask, “Do I really need insulation in my walls and ceiling?” At Basements & Beyond we say “Yes!” Not only is it necessary to insulate your walls with R13 BAT and your ceiling with R19 BAT insulation, it is also important to seal the rim joist gap with Icynene expanding foam. This will create an impervious seal between your studs and foundation wall, keeping air, moisture and pests permanently out. Using these three methods of insulating is recommended by Basements & Beyond to ensure that your home will be properly insulated for the duration of its life.
In addition to insulation creating a warm and habitable space, it serves as a great sound dampener. When insulation is applied to areas of the ceiling in the basement that have hard flooring above, foot traffic noise is reduced significantly. In the same respect, when insulation is properly applied to the walls of the furnace and bathrooms, the noise protruding from these spaces is virtually eliminated.
Proper insulation is an important element to consider when tackling any remodeling project. At Basements & Beyond we feel it is our duty to educate every one one of our customers of this importance. Lastly, make sure to hire a certified contractor to do this work.
Have a cozy and wonderful winter!
Your team at Basements & Beyond
